Licensed Clinical Psychologist
A Person-Centered Outpatient Practice
Where We Do What We Love For Others
Founded in 2008 | Serving clients throughout Michigan and offering in-person Services in downtown Dexter.
I am Dr. Marianne Wishka, a seasoned clinical psychologist offering psychotherapy, counseling and other mental health services. My training and clinical practice are trauma informed. My approach to therapy involves a partnership with my clients, a co-created healing journey, and a deeply attuned process. Within the safety of the relationship, clients discover their own unique wisdom and solutions in an integrated way. I address the whole person and attend to the resources within the body, mind and spirit.
My mission is to facilitate hope, health and healing by providing the highest standard of clinical excellence coupled with compassion and care, one client at a time.
“In my early professional years, I was asking the question:
How can I treat, or cure, or change this person?
Now I would phrase the question this way:
How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for his own personal-growth?”
— Carl Rogers
Who Comes to Therapy?
It isn’t the people who come to therapy that concern me; it’s those who don’t.
As a humanistic psychologist, I believe we are designed to realize a fuller potential, deeper meaning in our lives, and to address barriers to change when they arise.
People come to therapy for a myriad of reasons which may include grief, life transitions, relationship struggles, a desire for personal and spiritual growth, as well as the angst of mental health disorders such as anxiety, PTSD, and depression.
Being brave almost never FEELS brave because it manifests in our behaviors not our feelings.
The yearning for healing is already within us; I have reverence for people who answer that call by calling me.

Services
Support tailored to your needs, grounded in collaboration and humanistic care.

Psychotherapy is a “deep dive” . The process is intentional and originates from within the safety of the therapeutic alliance.
Relational psychotherapy is focused on original wounds and encourages a shift from thinking to feeling.
I invite you to explore the impact of unaddressed traumas and the influence they may have on behaviors, patterns, perceptions, and interpersonal relationships.

Counseling focuses on present concerns and practical solutions. It may include developing coping strategies, cognitive restructuring, stress management, and strengthening healthier patterns of behavior.
This approach is often goal-oriented and shorter-term, helping individuals manage anxiety, life transitions, relationship stress, or specific situational challenges with clarity and support.
While counseling can be structured and solution-focused, it is always grounded in compassion and collaboration.

People often comment that couples who struggle do so because of “communication problems” or “we’ve just grown apart.” In my experience, these are partial truths at best.
The most important variable in all relationships is the capacity for self-reflection and the vulnerability to share our discoveries. Knowing ourselves is paramount. Taking the risk to share what we know is the key to a more meaningful process of communication and an ongoing emotional connection. Vulnerability is a powerful part of this process.
I can help you navigate life transitions, rebuild trust and emotional intimacy, challenge the notion “we’ve just grown apart,” and cultivate deeper meaning in the relationship after long standing disconnection.
Our work together will focus on collaboration, rather than blame. The couple is my client, not the individuals within it.

Substance use disorders often carry stigma, shame, and isolation. My approach is grounded in respect, education, clinical expertise and personal experience of long-term recovery since July 20, 1983. I have been on my own healing journey for many years which has awakened my indomitable spirit. I began working in the field of addiction in 1985 and it continues to be an area of professional specialty.
I provide comprehensive evaluation and individualized treatment planning for those navigating early recovery, long-term recovery, or concerns about problematic use. Support may include relapse prevention strategies, accountability structures, and coordination with other professionals when appropriate.
For Family and Friends:
Family members and friends are also greatly impacted by the consequences of this disease and often suffer in silence. I offer support through education, groups, counseling, coping skills and strategies of how to “raise the bottom.”
One of the most damaging and untrue statements is “People have to hit bottom and want to stop before they can be helped.” I am here to explain how you can have an impact rather than feeling helpless.
If a person you love appears to be on a path of destruction through any addictive behaviors, please call me. I can help you help them.

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is an experiential therapy that integrates horses into the therapeutic process. Sessions do not involve riding instruction or lessons in horsemanship.
Horses are prey animals and have a unique sensitivity to their surroundings. They are in the moment and offer their essence rather than intellect. Interacting with horses offers a solution-focused, here and now perspective that unfolds differently in every session with every person. Horses are not “trained” to respond in particular ways; they are authentic and never lie.
Sessions are conducted on the ground in a paddock or round pen. A client does not have to even enter those areas in order to experience a session. Physical and emotional safety are paramount and always protected.
Having this type of experience can deepen healing and accelerate growth.
I invite you to please join me by getting out of the office and into the field.
Horses respond authentically and nonverbally, often revealing patterns in communication, boundaries, trust, and emotional regulation. This experiential approach can deepen insight and accelerate growth in ways that traditional office-based therapy may not.
EAP is appropriate for individuals, couples, and professionals seeking a dynamic and embodied therapeutic experience. Sessions are conducted with safety, structure, and clinical intention.

Therapy for Therapists
The ‘person of the therapist’ is central to effective clinical work. We are often “wounded healers,” and engaging in our own therapeutic process is not only supportive – it is essential. Accessing our own wisdom facilitates our ability to help our clients do the same.
While supervision offers professional guidance, personal therapy allows clinicians to immerse in their own growth, identify and explore defenses/blind spots, discover inner wisdom; this can promote clinical effectiveness. Our capacity to explore and embrace our own wounds is strongly correlated with our ability to be fully authentic, present and to offer a safe environment for our clients.
Clinical Supervision
I offer clinical supervision for licensed and temporary limited licensed psychologists (MA, TLLP).
We will explore clinical challenges including vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, countertransference, ethical considerations and therapist’s own growth within the work.
The frequency of supervision can be weekly or once a month, individually or in a small group setting.
Clinical Coaching
Many therapists prefer working with someone who understands the nuances and pressures of clinical practice without requiring extensive explanation.
This work may include navigating leadership challenges, decision-making, boundary setting, burnout prevention and strengthening professional identity.
Unlike psychotherapy, coaching is typically goal driven and forward focused, centered on growth and practical refinement rather than exploration of deeper psychological themes.
What to Expect
Making direct contact with you is my priority. Billing and paperwork will not dictate your experience; safe and personal contact will.
When you call and we connect, we will have a brief discussion about your needs and decide together whether it feels right to schedule your first session. If the fit is mutual, we will establish a weekly time to meet.
